AJH Leather Designs is a Black- and woman-owned luxury leather goods brand based in Georgia, USA. Founded by Arleen Jones-Harkness, Master Leathercrafter and MFA, every piece is designed, handcrafted, and finished exclusively by Arleen in Studio AJH — never mass-produced, never outsourced.

The Bespoke Process — What to Expect
It's an experience, not just shopping.
All AJH pieces are made-to-order, custom/bespoke, or full couture. Because each item is handcrafted individually, here's how the process works:
- Production time: ~3 weeks - 16 weeks depending on design complexity
- Leadtime: Up to 6 months due to limited capacity
- Reservation: A 50% deposit or full payment is required to secure your place in the queue. A portion of deposit covers your personal design consultation, material sourcing, project scheduling, and digital design mock-up. The deposit is applied toward the final purchase price of your bespoke piece and is non-refundable.

A bespoke piece from AJH Leather Designs isn't selected from a shelf.
It begins with a conversation.
Your lifestyle, your story, your sense of style, and the way you want your piece to make you feel all become part of the design. From the first sketch to the final stitch, you are invited into the creative process.
PART ONE — THE VISION
It begins with you.
Your bespoke journey starts with a private consultation where we explore what you envision.
Perhaps you know exactly what you want.
Perhaps you only know that you want something unlike anything you've seen before.
Either way, we begin there.
Together, we discuss the purpose of the piece, its silhouette, proportions, functionality, color, leather, hardware, stitching, and the details that will make it uniquely yours.
Your ideas are then translated into original design sketches.
This is where your vision begins to take form.
You don't simply choose a bag.
You participate in its creation.
PART TWO — THE MAKING
The sketch becomes a mock-up, then it becomes leather.
Once your design is approved, the craftsmanship begins.
Leather is carefully selected for the character, weight, texture, color, and purpose of your piece. Each hide is examined before cutting because leather is a natural material—and no two hides are exactly alike.
Patterns are prepared. The mock-up is made from the patterns. You see the mock-up, ask questions, make changes to the shape of the bag or other item.
Once approved, the leather is measured, marked, and cut.
Edges are refined.
Components are assembled.
Hardware is selected and fitted.
Stitching is carefully executed.
And, when appropriate, details are finished by hand.
Throughout the process, your piece moves from drawing → pattern/mock-up → leather → construction → finished form.
You aren't watching a mass-production line.
You are watching your piece come to life.
Where appropriate, you'll receive progress updates so you can experience the transformation along the way.
Every decision has a purpose.
Every detail has a place.
Every stitch brings the design closer to you.
PART THREE — THE REVEAL
Your vision becomes yours.
There is a moment when the final stitch is completed.
The hardware is secured.
The edges are finished.
The leather has been shaped.
And the piece that existed first as an idea—and then as a sketch—now exists in your hands.
Before your bespoke piece leaves the AJH studio, it receives a final inspection to ensure that the craftsmanship, construction, finishing, and details meet our standards.
Then comes the part we've been working toward:
The Reveal.
Your finished piece is carefully prepared and presented as the one-of-a-kind creation it was always meant to be.
This isn't simply a leather handbag.
It isn't simply an accessory.
It is a piece designed for you, with you, and because of you.
